Established SME and mid-market accounting

Sage implementation and migration

A long-established family of accounting products with a large installed base in Nigeria, including many businesses running older on-premise versions.

Our relationship with this platform: Independent implementation, migration and support. We are not an authorised reseller and do not hold a vendor certification unless stated otherwise in writing.

Who this platform suits

Good fit

  • Businesses already running Sage that need it configured properly, supported, or upgraded.
  • Trading and distribution businesses with established Sage installations and accumulated history.
  • Organisations with an existing investment in the platform and staff who know it.
  • Businesses moving from an older Sage version to a current or cloud edition.

Poor fit — be honest about this before committing

  • Businesses seeking a modern all-in-one cloud ERP with manufacturing, projects and POS in one database — evaluate the options rather than assuming Sage is the answer.
  • Very small service businesses that would be better served by a simpler, lower-cost platform.

Capabilities

Financial accounting

General ledger, bank and cash management, period control, and statutory and management reporting.

Sales and purchase ledgers

Customer and supplier records, invoicing, credit control, purchase orders and payment processing.

Stock and invoicing

Stock control and invoicing functionality in the trading-oriented products, suitable for many distribution and retail businesses.

Payroll

Payroll products exist within the Sage family for various markets. Nigerian statutory payroll requirements are confirmed during scoping and commonly handled alongside a dedicated payroll process.

Multi-user and multi-company

Available in the higher editions, with the specific capability depending on product and version.

Reporting

Standard financial reports with layout customisation in most editions, plus export for external analysis.

Deployment considerations

Sage spans on-premise desktop products and cloud offerings, and the installed base in Nigeria includes many older on-premise versions. That matters practically: an older version may be unsupported, may not run on current operating systems, and may have licensing and backup responsibilities sitting with the business. Where a business is on an unsupported version, the real decision is between upgrading within the family, moving to a cloud edition, or moving platform entirely — and that decision should be made on requirements, not on habit.

What implementation and migration cover

  1. Review of the current installation: version, support status, data condition and licensing position.
  2. Assessment of whether to upgrade, move edition, or change platform — with a recommendation and reasons.
  3. Chart of accounts review and redesign where the existing structure prevents useful reporting.
  4. Configuration of ledgers, tax treatment, document numbering, user access and period controls.
  5. Data extraction from the existing installation, including historical data where required.
  6. Cleansing of customer, supplier and stock records — often the largest task in a long-standing installation.
  7. Opening balance agreement and reconciliation to the prior accounts.
  8. Stock and pricing data set-up where trading products are in scope.
  9. Report layout configuration for the management pack.
  10. Training for finance and operations users, with written procedures.
  11. Parallel running and cut-over where warranted.
  12. Year-end support for the first close on the new configuration.

Reporting and integration

Standard financial and ledger reports are available, with layout customisation in most editions. Where management reporting needs exceed what the product produces directly, we design a routine export and reporting process. Integration options depend heavily on the specific product and version in use, so we confirm them during scoping rather than assuming.

Training and support

For existing Sage users, training focuses on what has changed and on the processes that were not being used properly — period control, reconciliation discipline and report configuration are common gaps. For migrations, training covers the new environment end to end. Written procedures are provided and support continues through the first year-end.

Limitations and dependencies

Every platform has boundaries. Knowing them before you commit is cheaper than discovering them after.

  • The Sage family spans many products and versions with materially different capability. Anything on this page must be confirmed against the specific product and version in use.
  • Older on-premise versions may be unsupported and carry operating system, backup and licensing risks.
  • Cloud capability and market availability vary by product; we confirm what is available before recommending a move.
  • Nigerian statutory payroll and tax filings are not fully handled by the platform.
  • Sage is not equivalent to a full ERP for manufacturing, multi-warehouse or complex project environments.

Frequently asked questions

We have been on Sage for years. Should we stay?

It depends on the version, the support status and your requirements. If the product still fits and is supported, staying and configuring it properly is often the right answer. If it is unsupported or no longer fits, we will tell you and set out the options — including staying where you are if that is genuinely best.

Can you migrate us from an old Sage version?

Yes. We extract the data, assess its condition, cleanse it, agree opening balances and reconcile. Where history is extensive we usually migrate opening balances plus the current year and retain the old installation read-only.

Can you fix our existing Sage setup without migrating?

Often, yes. Many Sage problems are configuration and process problems: an unusable chart of accounts, no period control, unreconciled ledgers, stock that does not match. Fixing those is usually far cheaper than migrating.

Who do we pay for the licence?

The vendor or its reseller directly. We do not mark up licences and we do not require you to buy through us.

Can you support us without doing a project?

Yes. Ad-hoc support and periodic reviews are available for businesses that simply need someone who knows the platform and the accounts.

How does Sage compare with ZhiftERP for our business?

Sage is accounting-led; ZhiftERP is an ERP with accounting inside it. If your reporting depends on stock, purchasing, production or project data, the ERP approach usually wins. If your needs are financial, Sage may be the more economical choice. We assess both against your requirements.

Want a second opinion before you commit?

We are independent of the vendors. We will tell you if this platform is right for you, and we will tell you if it is not.
